Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Chex Mix

Crunchy, buttery cinnamon sugar Chex mix tossed with M&Ms.
When I was pregnant, I traveled every week for my job and I used my pregnancy as an excuse to eat all the things that smelled amazing in the airport. I was no stranger to the cinnamon sugar pretzel stand. I’d eat that pretzel as we were taking off and then spend the rest of the flight in a sugar coma with an over stuffed stomach.
This Chex mix has all the flavor of those pretzels but has a satisfying crunch and doesn’t leave you with a food hangover. It’s super easy and super satisfying.
I love Chex mix — it’s easy, it’s inexpensive and because I was a kid in the late 80s, it makes any day feel like a party. Now, I know lots of people microwave Chex mix these days, but I don’t. I think the cereal tends to get soft and not as crunchy. So bake this, trust me.
The ingredients are easy — Chex (I buy the Aldi brand because it tastes the same and is half the price), mini pretzels, butter, cinnamon and sugar. At the end, I add in M&Ms, but I have also added in milk chocolate chips and white chocolate chips. All three if I’m feeling saucy. If you do add chocolate chips, please wait until the pretzels and Chex are completely cool.
To make this it’s easy — you melt the butter and drizzle it over the cereal. Add the cinnamon sugar. Stir until everything is coated in butter and cinnamon sugar. Bake for 20 minutes. Cool. Add candy. Devour.
WARNING: You may eat the whole bowl if left alone. Be sure to have someone home to share this with. Or bring some to your neighbors.

Cinnamon Sugar Chex Mix

  • 4 cups pretzels
  • 2 cups corn Chex
  • 2 cups rice Chex
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon the good stuff!
  • 1 cup M&Ms

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line a baking sheet in parchment paper. (I know, it sounds fussy, it makes clean up so easy.)

  2. Combine pretzels and cereal in a large bowl. Melt the butter in the microwave. Let sit for one minute to cool.

  3. Combine cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.

  4. Pour the melted butter over the cereal a little at a time and stir. Add some more and stir. Stir until all the cereal and pretzels have a fine layer of butter on them. Sprinkle 1/3 of the sugar mixture over the cereal and stir. Then add the next third of sugar and stir some more.

  5. Pour mix on the baking sheet and spread evenly. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon sugar.

  6. Bake for 18 minutes and cool completely. Sprinkle with M&Ms and serve.
